For Solo Clarinet and Marimba
Cogitation, for solo clarinet and marimba, was written for Kristy Papak (Domico) and Christopher Domico. Both parts contain virtuosic, technical passages that place a high demand on both performers. The design of Cogitation is simple. Nearly all the pitch material is derived from the intervals of a perfect fourth and minor second. This material is used in three varied thematic sections. The title, Cogitation, was meant to describe the back and forth “conversation” between the clarinet and marimba.
